With the whole country undergoing a startup wave, how could politics be left out. Enter Arvind Kejriwal. The man, no doubt, has had an illustrious career. IIT, Civil Service, Magsaysay award, is by no mean a small feat.
The aam aadmi party(which in future will be referred as AAP) managed to do what no other political party probably in the world could do. They managed to eke out a niche for themselves very quickly. They hit the right note at the right time. Thanks to the congress their work was cut down and all they needed to do was to come up and grab the opportunity with both hands.
Back in the day, the government was in shambles. Every other day the media came out with some scam and virtualized it to be the biggest scam India had ever scene. Arvind Kejriwal was just smart enough to play the anti-graft card and was lionized into this no nonsense, working for the people, politician. The only good thing according to me about him is that he is not corrupt. That is it, the lack of venality is his USP.
The question therefore is can he and AAP guide this country in the near future? Looking at his behavior after holding the chair of the chief minister is quite disturbing for the general public. His puerile attitude and public conduct sometimes makes me think of him as a condescending human with a semblance of austerity. Now, I might be wrong and I hope I am but some of his theatrics has gotten to people’s nerves. I don’t despise his intent. I’m sure AAP has a very noble thought process but it’s just those one off incidents that gets me thinking about him as the rest of them.
More than a year ago, I had written about how AAP should go about the general election. Now I’m not an expert in this field but what AAP lacked a year ago, is what AAP lacks now. Yes they have won the election and are going pretty darn strong in Delhi, but looking at the bigger picture, AAP is still called a small party. The parochial attitude has to go. Giving away electricity, water and mounting cost on the national exchequer is just not good business. At a time where the whole country is going through a massive remodeling, it is best to avoid such expenses.
So IMO, Kejriwal should shy away from media tiffs and work in a conducive manner with the central government. His insatiable greed for power and responsibility should be kept in check by his own party and he should come up with a plan to entice the business class. As I said before, the age of capitalism will force you to reckon with the business class because they control the capital now.
